detail of a portrait of Ingrid Bergman

Portrait of Ingrid Bergman 1989         by Paul Noonan

Detail

Pencil on paper

In this close-up you can see the pencil work used to capture the hair. The picture itself is only about 20cm square so the close-up is quite revealing. I remember I used a hard 7H pencil together with an HB to get the desired effect. It's a surprise I didn't rip the paper to shreads with that sharp 7H. Today I use a much wider range of pencils mostly on card rather than paper.
