A
Portrait of Guy

Detail
Pencil
and wash on card
As I've mentioned
before, it's not often I've drawn men so drawing Guy was a great
opportunity to bring in all the techniques I'd learned. This picture
has a watercolour wash and cross-hatching was used to great effect
to get the texture of the skin just right.
Working on card
gives me a great base to work on. When I'm using watercolour, sharp
pencils and cross-hatching I'm likely to rip normal paper to shreads.
The surface of the card takes on it's own texture by the time the
drawing is done. One thing the photos can't show fully is the play
of light across the surface of the drawing. It can be crucial for
the final effect.
