Chalk and Charcoal copy of Catherine D'Anvers

Chalk and charcoal on Ingres paper

Chalk and charcoal is a medium I have used on a number of occasions. I can't achieve the detail of a pencil but the drawing gets finished a lot quicker !

The blending is the key with this medium. Charcoal and chalk if not blended properly have the habit of forming an undesireable cloudy appearance that is no good for the drawing. Smudging can also make or break the picture !

This was a preliminary drawing for an oil copy of the picture. I'd say this worked out better than the oil version.
