Hope       2007         by Paul Noonan

This picture is dedicated to the memory of my Uncle Jim.

Pencil on paper

The idea of portraying Hope as a character is what this portrait is all about. I had to get the eyes right. For me there's a very fine line separating hope from despair. She's looking into the distance and whatever she has seen has turned her mood away from despair, away from giving up. I hope I've caught that moment in this portrait.

The drawing was done with graphite pencils on normal cartridge paper.
