Portrait
of an Old Man
1989 by
Paul Noonan
Oil
Pastel on Ingres Paper
This was one
of my first efforts using pastels. These particular pastels are
the oil/crayon type and it just happened that I started using them
instead of the chalk type. I'd like to do more with pastels, particularly
the chalk variety. The colours that pastels can throw up are incredibly
rich. I have seen some brilliant examples of pastel work and for
me the work of Frederick Sandys and Dante Gabriel Rossetti in particlular
stands out.
