Copy of Renoir's Girls at the Piano

Copy of Renoir's Girls at the Piano        by Paul Noonan

Oil paint on canvas board

My first favourite artist was Renoir. There was just something about his work that captivated me. For me it was Degas' drawing and Renoir's painting in the early days. The colour of Renoir's paintings was mind-blowing and he had a way of painting the translucency of skin that was unmatched in my opinion.

To learn what I could I decided to try and copy this painting. I found it tough going. I was no Impressionist but I'd learn invaluable lessons from doing this picture. I'd learn that Renoir could cleverly manipulate colour like a magician.
