Portrait of Rene in pencil and wash

Portrait of Rene
1992         by Paul Noonan

Pencil and wash on card

It's fair to say I've drawn mostly women and children in my portraits. The skin is smooth and the nuances that light picks up are very subtle. Drawing Rene was a chance to draw more texture in the skin and using watercolour wash and pencil on a card base would help me with this portrait.

I'm pleased particularly with the eyes in this work. I wanted to get across the modest pride of this man. The 'Father of the Bride' look' if you like.
