A pencil portrait called The Wonder by Paul Noonan

The Wonder
2011         by Paul Noonan

Graphite pencil on board

Drawing children is always a challenge for many reasons. Personalities are forming, little characteristics are developing. The younger they are, the harder it is to detect these. For me, children by their very nature are curious. Every day there's something new to learn, something new to discover. As adults we perhaps lose a little of this.

In this portrait I try to capture the wonderment in a baby's eyes. What a fantastic feeling that must be. Here, the seed to explore, to learn has been sown...

In the words of Louis Armstrong,

'They'll learn much more than I'll never know.........'
